what is it?

Minoxidil is a topical solution approved by the FDA. The 5% solution, as sold by hims, is considered the most effective to treat male pattern baldness by stimulating hair growth and slowing hair loss. Minoxidil can be used anywhere on the scalp where you see thinning, but is not recommended for use treating hair loss anywhere else (including your face). 

what’s the recommended dosage?

hims recommends applying 1 ml topically to the affected areas of the scalp twice per day.

how to apply it?

Apply 1 ml of hims Minoxidil via the dropper mechanism to towel-dried hair after the shower each morning, and then apply an additional 1 ml to dry hair before bed each evening.

how soon can I expect to see results?

Minoxidil stimulates hair growth and slows hair loss. For best results, medical professionals advise that men start using Minoxidil at the first signs of thinning hair.

Right now there is no detailed scientific research on the effects of minoxidil on the hairline. As such, it’s best to view minoxidil as something with potential benefits, instead of as a guaranteed way to regrow your hairline. Yes. Topical minoxidil - branded by Pfizer - was approved by the FDA in 2006.

what are the potential side effects?

The most common side effect of minoxidil is skin irritation at or near the application site. In some cases, minoxidil users can develop a skin rash or experience a mild burning feeling after using minoxidil spray. Patients with a history of cardiac disease should be monitored closely while taking minoxidil. Hair loss may re-occur within 3 to 4 months after Minoxidil topical treatment is stopped.
